The Push for Local Businesses to Adopt E-Commerce
By Ayanda Mthembungxamngxa
During the Covid-19 pandemic some businesses suffered due to being inaccessible during lockdowns, though others were able to stay operational due to the rise in e-commerce.
Even small to medium local businesses were made to adopt changes that may not be going away even after lockdowns stop and in person shopping stores become optional again to customers.
So it should come as no surprise that emerging businesses of different scales and sizes are flocking to adopt e-commerce trends like online payment methods such as Venmo or using QR Codes unique to that business.
Why Should Local Businesses Integrate and Enhance Themselves With E-Commerce?
Aside from the potential in increasing purchases and profits, e-commerce can drive engagement rates and attention of customers in a way that regular businesses may not, especially local businesses that may not offer in person store fronts.
E-commerce offers at your own leisure experience that may not be available, not being rushed and no waiting in long lines. This creates convenience for the customer and even in the digitized business world the customer is still the main focus.
How Can Local Businesses Adopt E-Commerce To Enhance Themselves?
This will vary according to scale but there are a number of e-commerce methods that small businesses can implement to see a notable increase in online attention rate and profit.
Though many may be new to eCommerce they can, fortunately, take advantage of pre-existing platforms PayPal is a tried and proven payment method and platform economies like Netbank’s Avo give businesses the ability to sell products directly to customers and accept payments online.
So Is This The Future, Is Ecommerce Here To Stay?
The opinion of many speculators is that the eCommerce economy is here to stay, with a global growth estimated to be around $5 Trillion. This will not negate the need for walk-in stores however the necessity to adopt e-commerce will become more apparent as time goes on. Since customer data has proven to be crucial driver of eCommerce. Retailers will have to familiarize themselves with the personalization and privacy concerns of customers.
In summary, eCommerce is an accessible avenue in the current business world that must be embraced by local businesses due to being cost-effective and not requiring a large amount of money but still requiring time and attention to detail to ensure that the customer experience is positive.
